A noodle plant weighed every pack and did nothing with the readings. Captured them into live control charts the line operators watch, and rolled it out line by line without stopping production.
At an instant-noodle plant every pack crossed a checkweigher, and every reading was thrown away. Quality staff had no history and line operators had no live picture of whether a line was drifting out of tolerance.
Connected each scale to the network, logged every reading to a central database, and put a real-time control chart in front of the line operators with the acceptable band shaded, so drift is seen before it becomes waste. Added a historical viewer for quality staff, and a production counting system that turns raw pack counts into case totals per line and shows them on the plant's own control screens.
Rolled out line by line over five years and live in the plant through the last exchange.
