The missing front door for a national background-screening firm: self-service ordering built on top of their working Delphi/InterBase back office, not instead of it, and a costed argument that saved them an eighteen-month replacement project.
A national pre-employment screening firm ran on a Delphi/InterBase back office with no way for a small employer to buy a screening without a salesperson. The back office worked and was not going to be replaced; everything new had to reach into it.
Profiles Express, a self-service ordering site: register, sign the FCRA terms electronically, add applicants by package type, pay by card with per-state fee rules, and pass straight through to the existing report portal. Around it: the field investigators' timesheet application, a shared single-sign-on library, and one consolidated data layer replacing code duplicated across four databases. Reorganised a thirty-project .NET estate into a single solution so it could be submitted for security scanning.
Fourteen years of production. When an eighteen-month Dynamics 365 replacement was being sold to management, I argued against it, costed it, and documented the vendor's red flags. The firm kept what worked.
